چکیده

We consider the problem of computing reachability probabilities: given a Markov chain, an initial state of the Markov chain, and a set of goal states of the Markov chain, what is the probability of reaching any of the goal states from the initial state? This problem can be reduced to solving a linear equation A · x = b for x, where A is a matrix and b is a vector. We consider two iterative methods to solve the linear equation: the Jacobi method and the biconjugate gradient stabilized (BiCGStab) method. For both methods, a sequential and a parallel version have been implemented. The parallel versions have been implemented on the compute unified device architecture (CUDA) so that they can be run on a NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU). From our experiments we conclude that as the size of the matrix increases, the CUDA implementations outperform the sequential implementations. Furthermore, the BiCGStab method performs better than the Jacobi method for dense matrices, whereas the Jacobi method does better for sparse ones. Since the reachability probabilities problem plays a key role in probabilistic model checking, we also compared the implementations for matrices obtained from a probabilistic model checker. Our experiments support the conjecture by Bosnacki et al. that the Jacobi method is superior to Krylov subspace methods, a class to which the BiCGStab method belongs, for probabilistic model checking.

Implementation of the direction of arrival estimation algorithms by means of GPU-parallel processing in the Kuda environment (Research Article)

Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of audio signals is critical in different areas, including electronic war, sonar, etc. The beamforming methods like Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR), Delay-and-Sum (DAS), and subspace-based Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) are the most known DOA estimation techniques. The mentioned methods have high computational complexity. Hence using...

Reachability checking in complex and concurrent software systems using intelligent search methods

Software system verification is an efficient technique for ensuring the correctness of a software product, especially in safety-critical systems in which a small bug may have disastrous consequences. The goal of software verification is to ensure that the product fulfills the requirements. Studies show that the cost of finding and fixing errors in design time is less than finding and fixing the...

USING PARALLEL BRANCH-AND-BOUND ALGORITHM ON GPUs FOR OPTIMAL DESIGN OF MULTI-PRODUCT BATCH PLANTS

In this paper, we propose a novel implementation of the branch-andbound algorithm on a system with GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) using the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) approach. The developed implementation is used for solving a real-world problem – the optimal selection of the chemical equipment for multi-product batch plants. We propose two implementations for the searching a...

Weights in block iterative methods

In this paper we introduce a sequential block iterative method and its simultaneous version with op-timal combination of weights (instead of convex combination) for solving convex feasibility problems. When the intersection of the given family of convex sets is nonempty, it is shown that any sequencegenerated by the given algorithms converges to a feasible point. Additionally for linear feasibil...

Parallel Implementation of Particle Swarm Optimization Variants Using Graphics Processing Unit Platform

There are different variants of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm such as Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) and Particle Swarm Optimization with an Aging Leader and Challengers (ALC-PSO). These algorithms improve the performance of PSO in terms of finding the best solution and accelerating the convergence speed. However, these algorithms are computationally intensive. The go...
